How to Get There

São Thomé das Letras is located in the south of the state of Minas Gerais, near the city of Três Corações.

For those coming from Belo Horizonte or São Paulo, the easiest way to get there is via BR381 (Fernão Dias Highway) to Três Corações. From there, take the highway to São Thomé das Letras.

Tourists from the city of Rio de Janeiro should take BR116 (Via Dutra) to Engenheiro Passos. From there, continue the journey through Caxambu and Tres Corações to São Thomé das Letras.

For visitors from the southeast of Minas Gerais and the state of Espírito Santo, the best way is to go to Juiz de Fora (MG) and from there take BR267 to the entrance to Cruzília. Those who do not want to take the dirt road (Cruzília - São Thomé), which is poorly signposted, should continue on BR267 to Cambuquira and from there to Três Corações and then to São Thomé das Letras.

Location

Its privileged location, combined with its rustic and typically Minas Gerais countryside atmosphere, on a mountainous point and elevated 1,440 meters above sea level (allowing observation of practically the entire surrounding region), makes the city a favorite destination for many nature-loving tourists and people connected to the arts in general, having even been the setting for an old soap opera on the now-defunct Rede Manchete.
